William Penny Brookes - Much Wenlock's founding father of the Olympic Games! - June 2010
Not many people are aware of the importance in the name William Penny Brookes. Last year Oaks were given the opportunity to change this!
We are currently setting up a William Penny Brookes Foundation in order to raise awareness of the Brookes Legacy - the founding father of the modern day Olympic Games.
We are delighted to be a part of this project and feel it will be a great success - especially after hearing the recent news that one of the London 2012 mascots has been called "Wenlock", named after the town where William Penny Brookes was born and came up with the genious idea!
Oaks will play a major part in the creation, development and ongoing operation of the foundation, along with the help of the Much Wenlock Legacy Group and Energize Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin. To learn more about the Foundation please click here
