The Team : Mark Walker - Managing Partner

Mark

What is your role at Oaks?

I work with Adam on all aspects of strategic development, lead our statutory and charitable income projects and take care of the day to day finances of the company.

How would you summarise your career and experience to date?
I have spent 20 years competing and coaching professionally in sport and 8 years in local and regional sports development with National Governing Bodies, Sport England and in education, specialising in statutory and charitable income generation and strategic planning.

What do you think is unique about Oaks?
We understand our clients’ needs from strategy through to delivery, through our own experience within these types of roles, coupled with an ability to work at a corporate and statutory main board level by using well practiced marketing and sales skills.

What do you think is the biggest challenge facing the world of sport in the next 5 years?
Domestically delivering a world class Olympics in the worst economic climate for decades whilst ensuring that the legacy of the activity and facilities is not wasted as with other notable games.

On the world stage sport, and in particular football, is coming close to economic un-sustainability, I think there will be some notable casualties before sport finds a more realistic way of operating.

What is your favourite sporting moment?
It would have to be Damon Hill winning the 1996 F1 title. He had been denied in 1994 in Australia by some dubious tactics from Schumacher, who went on to win again in 1995. Hill could have won the title in the second to last race of the 1996 season but made a mistake and crashed out. We had waited since the mid 1980s for the next British winner and although he wasn’t the best driver at the time, his intensity and desire to win made it very special when he finally took the title.

What is your personal greatest sporting achievement?
Managing 50 minutes in the Christmas football kick about at the tennis club - a real sense of achievement that my knees held up that long!

If you get any free time, how do you like to use it?
Coaching and playing tennis, skiing and scuba diving.
