Fundraising in Sport for Development: State of the Sector Report 2023-24

Updated: Mar 8

The fourth edition of the Fundraising in Sport for Development: State of the Sector Report is now available to download. Oaks Consultancy is delighted to share the findings of their latest research, which analyses the fundraising landscape among organisations using sport as a tool for positive social impact.

Every year, Oaks surveys sport for development organisations across the globe in order to benchmark fundraising performance, evaluate income streams and forecast the future direction of fundraising in the sector.

The findings reveal that organisations generally feel positive about their fundraising performance and capabilities. However, income growth is set to slow down for the first time in four years, and fundraising targets remain difficult to achieve. This is underpinned by a higher level of dependence on a single source of income - grant funding – than ever before. Organisations who are bold and innovative in their approach to raising income generally perform better than those who are conservative.

Ultimately, the findings point to a sector with incredible strength and resilience, which must now prioritise developing new skills and engaging new audiences in order to grow.
